Welcome back to another edition of the My 70s TV Childhood Quiz! This week we’re taking a trip to Trumptonshire – exploring the beloved trilogy of shows that were such an important part of our seventies childhood TV experience.

 Round One: Trumptonshire

1️⃣ Which of the Trumpton trilogy was the last one to be made and broadcast? Answer: Chigley (with the final episode being shown in December 1969, so almost scraping into the seventies)

2️⃣ In Chigley, what was the name of Lord Belborough’s Butler, who also doubled up as the fireman on his steam train? Answer: Mr. Brackett (Don’t you wish you had your own steam train in the back garden?)

3️⃣ In Camberwick Green, what was the name of the local doctor? Answer: Dr. Mopp (who drove around in a vintage Bentley and wore a top hat – not quite like the NHS of today!)

4️⃣ Still with Camberwick Green – what was PC McGarry’s police number? Answer: 452 (As in the song: “PC McGarry number 4-5-2”)

5️⃣ In Trumpton, Miss Lovelace the Milliner had three dogs. What breed were the dogs? Answer: Pekingese dogs

 Round Two: Marathon/Fil Rouge

1️⃣ What were the surnames of Bob and Terry, the former likely lads of the title in “Whatever Happened to The Likely Lads?” Answer: Bob Ferris and Terry Collier

2️⃣ Looking back at Record Breakers, what was the name of the annual Christmas special version of the show? Answer: All Star Record Breakers

3️⃣ Windsor Davies and Don Estelle had a hit record off the back of the show. What was it called? Answer: “Whispering Grass (Don’t Tell the Trees)” (’cause the trees don’t need to know!)

4️⃣ During which war was The Flashing Blade set? Answer: The War of the Spanish Succession (which Oliver never covered at school, so couldn’t say anything about it other than it must have been quite exciting!)

5️⃣ Who was the narrator of the Wombles? Answer: The late, great, never equaled Bernard Cribbins

🎵 Round Three: Name That Tune (1977)

1️⃣ Answer: The Krypton Factor (the theme tune to the long-running quiz show)

2️⃣Answer: Secret Army (Secret Army’s theme tune)

3️⃣ Answer: The Flumps (those furry little ball-type things – Oliver could never really get on with them!)

4️⃣ Answer: King of the Castle (a rather gothic fantasy set in a tower block)

5️⃣Answer: Wings (the First World War RAF drama)

Round Four: TV Times

1️⃣ Who were England playing in the first live home England World Cup International qualifier match shown on ITV from Wembley in October 1973? Answer: Poland (the infamous game where the match finished 1-1 and England failed to qualify for the World Cup Finals for the very first time)

2️⃣ Who presented the first two series of Kickstart in 1979 and 1980? Answer: Dave Lee Travis (rather unlikely presenter!)

3️⃣ What was the name of the all-girl pop group who assisted Captain Caveman? Answer: The Teen Angels

4️⃣ What does TISWAS stand for? Answer: Today Is Saturday Watch And Smile (which sounds quite appropriate!)

5️⃣ What was the name of the harmonica player who often popped up at the end of The Morecambe & Wise Show? Answer: Arthur Tolcher (who used to pop out and start playing his harmonica, then Morecambe & Wise would shout “Not now, Arthur!” and that would be the end of the programme)

🎁 Bonus Question

In the US TV show, Alias Smith and Jones, what were the real names of Mr. Smith and Mr. Jones? Answer to be revealed in next episode….
