Round One: And the Totaliser Says…

Do you remember the Blue Peter appeal? All I am going to do is read out what the appeal was collecting and who it was for and all you need to do is tell me which year in the 70’s I’m referring to.

1.Old stamps and postcards for medical accommodation, food, drugs and equipment for babies and children injured and made homeless by the civil war in Lebanon.

2.Postage stamps and pre-decimal coins for 1,000 Medi-Bikes and other medical aid for health workers in Tanzania.

3.Woollen socks and cotton pillow cases for two dormitories for the Starehe Boys’ Centre in Kenya.

4.Used postage stamps for 400 oxen, 200 ploughs, 12 tons of seed and various farming equipment in the Danakil Desert.

5.Old watch straps, key-rings, thimbles and metal buttons for two old people’s centres at Deptford and Wolverhampton, 8 hot dinner vans and 100 holidays.

Round Two: Marathon/Fil Rouge

Questions related to topics and personalities we’ve featured in previous episodes of the My 70’s TV Childhood podcast.

1.Way back in July 2021 we remembered Rentaghost. What was the name of the man who found himself a ghost at the start of the first series but had to pretend to his parents he was still alive?

3.From our recent episode featuring Rod Hull and Emu, in which country did Rod Hull spend much of his early years in television?

5.In our episode “God Save the Queen” released in April 2021, we looked back at the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. What year did the late Queen celebrate her Silver Jubilee? (Note: This question was moved to Q5 to match the master list )

Round Three: Name That Tune (1974)

Our specially constructed Wheel of Fate has landed on 1974!

This round features five theme tunes from TV shows first broadcast on UK television that year.

Listen to the podcast episode to hear the music and test your knowledge!

Round Four: TV Times

Anything goes in this round, questions about various 70s television shows, personalities, and notable programming from the era.

1.What part of Jackie Wright’s anatomy did Benny Hill regularly slap?

2.In the female rock group series “Rock Follies”, what was the name of the all-woman pop group featured?

Bonus Question

As we are nearing the festive period, here’s an early Christmas question. On Boxing Day 1979, BBC1 gave a TV premiere to a 1968 war film starring Richard Burton who, according to his colleagues, was drinking about four bottles of vodka a day during its filming. What was it called?
