It’s hard to believe, but we’ve reached a massive milestone here at My 70’s TV Childhood β our 200th episode! It’s been an incredible journey, and I wanted to take a moment to look back at how it all started and what we’ve achieved together.
The Spark of an Idea
It all began in the summer of 2020. The world was a strange place, but there was a sense of optimism in the air. I’d been a frustrated author for a while, with a half-finished novel staring at me from my computer screen. The old advice to “write what you know” kept ringing in my ears, and I knew one thing better than most β growing up in the 1970s and the television that shaped my childhood.
At the same time, I was getting into podcasts. The idea of creating my own show started to take shape. Why not combine my love for 70s TV with this new and exciting medium? And so, My 70’s TV Childhood was born.
From Humble Beginnings to a Thriving Community
I recorded the first few episodes without knowing if anyone would even listen. But by the end of September 2020, we’d had 170 downloads, and I started to think this might just work. The response from you, our wonderful listeners, has been nothing short of amazing. Your emails, blog comments, and social media posts have been the lifeblood of this podcast. Without you, there would be no show.
Over the years, we’ve covered everything from Watch with Mother and Follyfoot to Grange Hill and the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. We’ve celebrated the 50th anniversary of Mr Benn, and we’ve even had a few Christmas specials that have become some of our most popular episodes.
The Future of My 70s TV Childhood
So, what’s next? Well, we’re not running out of ideas anytime soon! We’ll be continuing with our weekly quizzes, and we’re hoping to bring you more interviews with some of the people who made 70s TV so special.
We’re also looking into the possibility of live online shows and even some merchandise. So, watch this space!
Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey. Here’s to the next 200 episodes!
I’d love to know what your favourite episodes have been. Let me know in the comments below or on our Facebook group.
Take care,
Oliver
